Launch of the Fujitsu Innovation Hub
Tue 1st Nov
Talent Bank opens a technology-focused Innovation Hub in the School of Management, Bay Campus, Swansea University in collaboration with Fujitsu and their partners.
A range of delegates from across academic, industry, health, education and government were welcomed to the event to see the official opening of the Hub. Talent Bank is delighted to collaborate with such high profile companies to introduce the Fujitsu Young Ambassador Programme, which aims to engage students in preparation for immersion in a world of innovation and next generation technology.
The Fujitsu programme already supports 10 schools, colleges and universities across the UK, by setting up Innovation Hubs to equip these establishments with high performance solutions and support digital skills development. The initiative aims to enhance teaching and unleash students' potential by putting technology at the heart of education. The industry-led programme is designed for selected students and focuses on digital and emerging technologies and innovation in order to grow local talent and skill supply across the South West Wales region.
“Students aged 14-16 who are interested in technology and computer science across South West Wales will engage in monthly meet-ups providing hands-on exposure to a range of workshops on innovative and emerging technologies.
The programme is further supported by the ARCH project, which advocates the importance of collaborating with Fujitsu to provide local students with the opportunity to develop their experiences within an innovative environment, working closely with the health and life science sector. Learning in such an advanced technological space will enable students to engage in a novel learning experience.
Ash Merchant, Director of Education at Fujitsu, was present for the launch, and stated that “contemporary models such as Talent Bank play a crucial role on creating an embedded digital journey for learners. We are incredibly excited to further grow our commitment to putting technology at the heart of education by adding Swansea to our 2016 Young Ambassador Programme and opening the Innovation Hub in Swansea University."
Fujitsu director Joe Duran emphasised the importance of collaborating through initiatives such as ARCH to help deliver transformation in healthcare. He said: “By using technology and harnessing innovation we can redesign the future.”
Joe further discussed how there is an ever-growing need for young people to develop modern technological skills that will equip them for success in their future careers. The demand for an increase in digital skills is congruent with the current initiative within South Wales to utilise digital and emerging technologies and innovation in order to grow local talent and skill supply.
